A Power Stroke to Own Work - the 2018 Ford F-150's Diesel Specifications Released

A post shared by Ford Motor Company (@ford) on

Things change fast in the world of the half-ton truck. While our last blog post covered the F-150's class-leading capability, it's already added more notches to its belt. This time, it's thanks to the announcement of just what the awaited 3.0-liter Power Stroke Turbo Diesel V6 can do. And yes, just like the rest of the 2018 Ford F-150 engine lineup, it's offerings top it's class.

For some, the arrival of the diesel to the F-150 range isn't news. It was announced just over a year ago, when Ford made the look and updates to the 2018 truck public, and promised an engine that would outstep it's across-town competitor from RAM. After a year of making sure it could live up to that promise through exhaustive testing, the results are in: with 250 horsepower, 440 lb-ft of torque, and 2,020 lbs. and 11,400 lbs. maximum payload and towing respectively, the F-150 is best-in-class among petrol and diesel competitors.

But as we said, progress moves fast in this market, and some might be wondering if the all-new RAM Truck model the F-150 competes with has been updated with an answer in mind to the grit and muscle of the Power Stroke. That would be a firm "no,"--at least, not yet. For the foreseeable future, the F-150's credentials can be projected to remain best-in-class, as well as an exclusive offering.

So, how does one get their hands on this truck?

The order books are now open, where you'll find the turbo diesel V6 offered on Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models with full-size "SuperCrew" cabs and 5.5 or 6.5 box choices. Lariat double-size "SuperCab" models can have a 6.5 or 8-foot bed attached. Those in search of one of Livermore Ford's work truck solutions will be pleased to know that commercial customers will find diesel power on XL and XLT in double and full-size cabs, with the two longest available beds.
